Nuestro nombre es Somos Durham para reflejar todas nuestras acciones que van más allá de solo la votación.

Durham está en una posición única para crear un espacio político enfocado en la comunidad Latino Americana, donde nuestra comunidad pueda interactuar y llevar a cabo varias acciones necesarias para avanzar juntos. Al integrar nuestras raíces culturales y sabiduría ancestral en el compromiso cívico a nivel municipal y del condado, podemos ayudar a que nuestro movimiento liderado por la comunidad impulse el cambio y sirva como modelo para otros condados de Norte Carolina.

Our name, Somos Durham, is to encompass our various actions that go beyond voting.

Durham is in a unique position to bring a Latiné-focused political home for our comunidad to interact with to power several actions necessary to propel our comunidad forward. By integrating our cultural roots and ancestral wisdom into civic engagement at the city and county level we can help our leaderful movement drive change and serve as a model for other NC counties. 

Tonight our cominidad will get a chance to meet and learn about the priorities of our city council candidates for Ward 1 and 2! Durham Interneighborhood Council (Durham INC), Coalition for Affordable Housing and Transit (CAHT), Bike Durham, El Centro, Enlace Latino NC, Somos Durham, and Aging Well Durham the span of two days so that the community can learn about all candidates running for local office in Durham, NC before early voting starts on September 18, 2025. On August 27, we will get to know candidates for Ward 3 and for Mayor. This event is FREE. Spanish interpretation will be available on Zoom. Link in Bio!

Hola amigues! Last month we met and embodied the healing power of community to tend to collective trauma and grief. We shared some small and not so small ways to engage in defending community while also finding joy in resistance. We’re not looking away from the chaos, we’re staring at it knowing we’re stronger together. If things feel heavy know that you’re not alone, we are with you and for you!

El viernes we have a collab with Familias Unidas Durham for a kids back to school clothes swap and each of you that has a college experience journey or about how you progressed after high school through other pathways can come and share that journey to the parents and kids so they hear what is possible for their futuros. Our Somos Runners will be swapping out our botas for our tennis! Ahí nos vemos. Bring a friend 🏃🏽🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽🏃🏽‍♀️. We’ve collaborated with several groups to host two candidate forums. Spanish interpretation will be available.
